Watering can solution for high shelved plants

This plastic watering can will serve both as a decorative and a functional watering can, ideal for small house plants stored on tall shelves. It's long neck allow the user to reach high shelves with ease.

With the ergonomic design, it allows users to easily water plants without excessive wrist movement.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

I began developing ideas through sketching, mainly focusing on the aesthetics of the watering can. I then decided on an organic shape, one that mimic the look of a water drop (hence, inspiring the name "dropr") to give a clue on the product's intent.

I then made a rough prototype to do user testing through a rough 1 : 1 scale form representation model made out of cardboard. The prototype gathered user feedback on the usability of the watering can and ensured that the design was ergonomic.

Lastly after correcting my errors in my rough prototype, I made the final section model out of foam board.  The final high-fidelity model was built using Rhinoceros and rendered in Keyshot for the final presentation.

USER TESTING AND PROTOTYPING

After building my first prototype (form representation model from Ideation slide) out of cardboard, I found errors in my initial design.  In use, the angle of the spout made the wrist bend too much and the handle was too small for large hand users. I then changed the design of the final design to solve these problems in my final design. I adjusted the angle of the spout to a larger angle to ease the movement of watering without bending the user's wrist too much. I enlarged the handle to a comfortable size to suit both small and large hand users.
